Eeva Peura

Eeva Peura (b. 1982, Orimattila) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, in 2011 and has been actively exhibiting ever since. The stories of the paintings are not illustrations, but rather images of the inner world that wake up the viewer’s imagination and desire to continue the tale. Peura is interested in people’s contradictions and incompleteness. Tales, like life, can be dark, sad, or frightening at times, but there is also tenderness and compassion present. Literature, words, and art history are important inspirations for Peura. She often begins drafting with paper works and creating collages. There are a lot of black and earth colors in the often quite dark works, and from the midst of which bright and tender tones arise. In 2019 Peura was awarded the William Thuring Prize of the Finnish Art Association. Peura´s works include the collections of the Finnish state, the Saastamoinen Foundation, and the Helsinki Art Museum.
