Teemu Korpela

Teemu Korpela (MFA) is a Helsinki based artist, who has studied in the University of the Arts Helsinki and St.Petersburg Academy of Arts.

Korpela`s practise is defined by a conceptual inquiry in to the materials, medium and expressions of art and what they can reveal to us about ourselves as human beings. For many years he has exhibited mosty installations but has resently returned to his roots, the two dimensional painting format.

Korpela sees art as a form of thinking, and his conceptual starting points come from a wide range of philosophical traditions, psychology and different sciences. His motivation to do art comes from a need to understand the forces that dictate the way we experience our existence and the way we act towards the world and ourselves. He sees the visual, poetic and metaphorical communication as a possibility to bring the viewer in to a concious connection with phenomenons wich are lost in the rigid chains of logic and data or that are hidden in to the structures of culture and society.

Korpela has exhibited his work actively since 2005. He`s work has been shown in Finland, U.S.A, England, Sweden, Slovakia, Italy and Latvia.He has works in several collections, including Museum Of Contemporary Art Kiasma (National Gallery)
