Markus Konttinen
Markus Konttinen paints with concrete colours in concrete space on concrete surfaces. Every colour has its own sound and energy, and the family of colours raises tensions and magnetism. For him, in painting, it is absolutely tempting to see this very energy and possibility of integrity. It is life to be awake.
Markus Konttinen has had around 130 solo and joint exhibitions in Finland and abroad. His works are included in public and private collections in Finland and abroad. He has studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki and worked as a lecturer, professor, rector, and dean at the Academy of the Fine Arts at the University of Fine Arts in Helsinki. In his early career, Konttinen was awarded the Ducat Prize in the Young Artists Exhibition in Kunsthalle Helsinki (1984/FI) and the Young Artist of the Year nomination by the Tampere Art Museum (1991/FI). In 2013, he was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal by the Finnish State, and in 2018, the University of the Arts in Helsinki granted him the title Doctor of Honour – honoris causa.
